Runnin' on Empty

Currently In: Woodland Park, CO near Colorado Springs
Next Up: Southfork, CO and then Bayfield, CO
New Mexico in September!

We joined Jamie and the boys at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a Jackson Browne concert.
On our way down to Red Rocks, Johnny and I visited a few spots in Boulder.  Pearl Street was reminiscent of Fort Collins pedestrian mall where the courthouse is located.

We discovered that Lake Chautauqua, NY has a sister location in Boulder! I was so taken with the NY community last Fall, we took a quick self guided tour.
Similar to New York, the property was opened as a place to learn, spend some leisure time and be entertained in a natural setting.  A group from Texas was instrumental in opening the Colorado Chautauqua as a summer school for teachers in the late 1800's.

The view is not the water as in NY, but the Flatiron Mountains.

There is also this nice view of Boulder from the auditorium.
The Flatiron Mountains are directly behind the resort,  so we took a short hike to get a better look.
On our way out of town, we took a quick drive through the University of Colorado where Johnny's nephew Adam got his master's.
We finally made it to Red Rocks!

I going to put it out there: I had never really heard of this music venue until Jamie mentioned it to me.  And thank goodness she did.  I loved it!

And of course, the history lesson.  Red Rocks was built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) from 1936 to 1941.
View of Denver from the top.

The weather was perfect, the crowd was mellow, the setting spectacular and the music brought back memories.  A special evening!
