Take it easy

Currently in Cottonwood, AZ.
On our way to California - Joshua Tree National Park is up next.

I am behind in my blog posts because our wifi connection in Cottonwood was terrible.
I'll catch up soon - promise!

Before our friends came, we took a day and went to the Petrified Forest National Park.

On the way we stopped at Winslow, AZ and took some advice from the song!

We also went to Meteor Crater.  A family had purchased land for a ranch that had a big depression in it.  After years of research, it was determined that a meteor hit the earth 50,000 years ago.  The meteor was traveling at 26,000 miles per hour! The work done here has helped scientists all over the world determine where other meteors have hit the earth.

We saw two parts of the Petrified Forest National Park.  First, the section with the actual fossilized trees - the wood has actually turned to quartz.

This piece of petrified wood actually formed a bridge that indigenous people used for hundreds of years.  The National Park Service has had to physically support it in order to preserve it.

We drove the Blue Mesa Road to look at the badlands, too.  They are made from river deposits.  Very unusual and colorful.

We finally made it to the Painted Desert!  Unfortunately, the sun was behind clouds so we did't get the brilliant colors across the whole desert.  But we enjoyed what we could.

History, nature, another National Park.  Pretty good for one day.  We were tired when we got home!
