We leave for Death Valley National Park this Friday
Next week we will be in Sequoia National Park
Then on to Hollister (CA), Yosemite NP and Lake Tahoe!
We spent the day in Palm Springs last Saturday - rubbing elbows with the beautiful people.
We started the day at the Farmer's Market where we picked up some great tomatoes, oranges and strawberries. It was hot (95 degrees), but the guitar guy was cool.
We then got on Palm Canyon Drive to see what all the fuss was about. I love the tall palms!
We stopped for lunch at a place that has misters! You may not be able to see them in this photo ( see the metal at the top of the ceiling), but they cool off the air so we ate outside. So pleasant!
There is so much to look at when walking along Palm Canyon - shops and restaurants galore, some in historic buildings. But there are also lots of reminders of all the famous people who lived here.
Lucille Ball - a favorite of mine |
Palm Spring version of the stars in the sidewalk.
We then took a self guided walking tour of residential architecture representative of the mid century modernism style. I love the ranch homes from this time period - so hip!
Because it was so hot, we turned the walking tour into a driving tour.
We saw about 10 structures- here are a few of the most notable.
Marilyn Monroe home |
Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway |
Liberace's home |
We ended the day with a drink from the bar of the last property on our tour - the Del Marcos Hotel. The bar looks out over the pool. The beautiful people are here!
I'm adding a couple of things about our park and our rig onto this post. We stayed at the Catalina Spa and RV Resort. It wasn't as hot as Palm Springs, but very windy!
Before we arrived, we had our rig washed in Quartzsite, AZ. A mobile company can wash it right on site! We've had it done this way before, but snapped a photo this time.
We had a beautiful view of the mountains (San Jacinto) from our campground.
I enjoyed the "spa" part of our park. It has mineral water from hot springs close by.
The Coachella Valley is so windy, there are many wind farms in the area. More than I have every seen before.
We had these visitors at our site.
And another visitor as well - Johnny's cousin Michael Kerr who lives in the LA area.
We had such a nice afternoon catching up! We are hoping to see Mike again now that we are in Redlands.
