Next Up: Bryce/Zion Canyon National Parks in Utah by way of Gallup, NM and Williams, Arizona
Established in 1926, US 66 was one of the first in the US Highway system. It ran from Chicago to Los Angeles, and passed right through Albuquerque. Although it has been replaced by the Interstate System, there are many sections designated as historic parts of the old highway.
The RV Park we are staying in is along the Old Route 66. The office building dates back to 1940 and was a restaurant so it became a regular stop for motor cars traveling to Albuquerque.
The owner of the park is a collecter of knick knacks from the era and displays them in the store. This structure at the back of the campground was a garage. Old memorabilia - American
Pickers would live this place!
There are several old RVs that people can rent right on the property, like this Airstream.
And lots of others - we were really amused by all the old timers. Love the chairs!
Here a couple with old cars!
I'm not sure if this converted bus is for rent or if it actually belongs to someone, but I thought it was interesting. There are solar panels on the top.
Uncle Dave and Aunt Kiyo stopped by the campground for a cookout one night. Their friend from Japan, Miho, joined us also. Just before dinner, there was a hard rain. See that cloud on the left?
We came out to enjoy the rainbow.
At sunset, we were able to enjoy a nice dinner. It was nice to see them again!
