Next Up: Moab, UT and then Phoenix where we will be warm!
While the beginning of our week at Bryce Canyon was sunny, the last couple of days it rained off and on. The rain gave us a chance to catch up on life, but we got out of the rig a little too.
There is a 5 mile bike path that goes right through the National Park. Johnny has been bothered by a bad knee (too much hiking?), so I went solo. The bike path was across the street from our RV park, so it was easy for me to hop on and go.
The scenery was nice, and I stopped to watch some deer and pronghorn for several minutes. The path changes 1100 feet in elevation so I only did about 2 miles - my lungs were burning!
I have also gotten to be a fan of the old hotels and lodges in the National Parks. We checked out Bryce Canyon Lodge that dates back to 1927.
The inside is charming as well, including the dining room.
There were 67 cabins built at the same time as the Lodge. They are adorable.
In addition to the "discovery" of Bryce Canyon by Mormon settler Ebenezer Bryce in 1874, we learned that our RV Park had some history which was on display in the General Store.
Rueben Syrett and his family ranched this land in 1916. They received permission from the state to build a "tourist rest" in 1919 that would serve the visitors to Bryce Canyon. None of the original buildings remain, but Ruby's Inn is now a hotel, general store and campground.
We loved our site, mostly because our satellite worked among the trees and we got a full complement of football last weekend!
