One City, Two States

Still in Hot Springs!
Heading to Memphis next week

We left Glen Rose and made the long drive to Texarkana.  I loved the name of this city when I was a child, so was excited to visit.

Of course a stop at the Post Office was a must.  We were in 2 states in the same city!

The Federal Building which houses the Post Office and the Courthouse, is from 1933 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
There is a Veteren's Monument across the street from the Federal Building honoring soldiers from the four states in this region: Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana.  Those are the flags from the four states.
City Market from 1894 in downtown Texarkana is undergoing renovation.  It was a wholesale market for fruits and vegetables.

I liked this entrance to the building.
Part of the building is now an art gallery.  The developer is adding other retail and lofts.  He hopes this building will anchor downtown revitalization.
The City Market is across the street from the railroad.  The Texas Pacific Railroad connected Texarkana to California and fresh produce became available.  Thus, the City Market was built.
This old dining car is being renovated to mark railroad history and become a tourist destination.

Johnny noticed this sign on the platform.  Humorous.
Interestingly enough, Johnny's sister Patty and her husband Hal were in the area for a friend's wedding.  We met them in Broken Bow, OK for a quick visit.
Another addition to our list of states visited!
