Peach Country!

Glen Rose, TX
Leaving for Texarkana today

We were busy (having fun!) in Fredericksburg so I am still updating the blog with everything we did there.

This part of Texas is known as Peach Country.  We talked about the possibility that the hard freeze would affect the peach crop.  We still saw blossoms on the trees, though. Hopefully the Spring will bring some delicious peaches.
Our friends Tim and Jenny left a couple of days before we did.  We were sad to see them go.  But there were still a couple of things left to see!  Johnny and I did some more wine tasting.  This one called Farmhouse Vineyard was in an Airstream RV!
It's so cute inside!  Our hostess, Bev, told us a lot about the wine making industry in Fredericksburg.  Many of the grapes come from Lubbock some 300 miles to the north and west.  Vineyards were first established by the Spanish when they needed wine for Mass, so it was discovered that grapes could actually be grown locally.  Dozens of wineries have become established in the last few decades as tourism has taken off here.
 The wine was delicious!
Once the weather warmed up, I really wanted to catch a sunset.  We started out at Becker Winery since we were told their porch was a great place to watch.
We saw the start of the sunset, but then the winery closed before the colors really got started.
We raced to the Hangar Hotel to catch the rest.  You guess it - this hotel used to be an airplane hangar.
It was done in a 1940's South Pacific WWII theme.
The lounge was maybe a place where the pilots hung out back in the day.
A tiki bar in the back!
The inside of the tiki umbrella has ads from the 40's.
We did see a couple of small planes land.  Kinda fun.
And I got my sunset!
